Now is the time to trial Appleton’s first bike corral!

Comments   |   FCCA

The FCCA believes now is the time for Appleton’s first bike corral.  To demonstrate this, FCCA prepared a proposal for a pilot program in 2014 DraftProposalforDowntownAppletonBikeCorral and submitted it to the City of Appleton for consideration.  This will be discussed at the January 7, 2014 Municipal Services Committee https://cityofappleton.legistar.com/MeetingDetail.aspx?ID=287277&GUID=F2D4BDF7-36FE-4C50-8B6D-8E9EA3705649&Options=&Search=.  If this passes the Municipal Services Committee, it will be on the agenda for the January 15, 2014 Common Council agenda.

Keys to the FCCA proposal are:

  • Appleton has 3,230 parking stalls in the parking structures and the 665 parking meters.
  • The proposal is to utilize one parking space in front of Harmony Cafe and install a bike corral with capacity for 10 bicycles.
  • FCCA proposes to arrange for all fundraising – total cost of the bike corral is estimated at $1650.
  • This is a pilot program and the future of this bike corral and any others depends on the performance of the pilot.  This provides an excellent opportunity to gauge the success of a bike corral in our community and provides a way to return to original conditions if this is not successful.
  • The pilot program is 6 months from April through September.

If you are an Appleton resident, we would appreciate your help by reviewing the proposal and if you are in favor, please let your alderperson know by emailing them at http://www.appleton.org/departments/?department=13eb3a3729c9
